You’ve finally opted to go for that facelift, tummy tuck, or liposuction so what happens now? Once you’ve made the big decision to have plastic surgery, the next step is to schedule a consultation with a qualified surgeon.
That consultation is your opportunity to ask questions, address concerns, and go over specific procedures so that you can make the best decisions to meet your goals. At Bangor Plastic and Hand Surgery, we provide a warm, comfortable environment for you to explore your aesthetic options and ensure that you’ll be prepared and informed going into your surgery. Here’s what you can expect from your consultation with our skilled surgeons and professional staff.
1) When you arrive at our facility, you’ll meet our friendly receptionist at the front desk. She’ll help you fill out any remaining paperwork that may not be available on line, and answer any questions you may have about our facility or our surgeons. In our waiting room, you’ll also have access to a wide range of educational resources about our plastic surgery procedures, as well as services we offer at Surface Medical Spa.
2) Our medical assistant will bring you into the exam room next, and prepare you for your visit with the surgeon. She’ll obtain your basic medical history, and also ask a few questions to help clarify what you’re expecting to get from your consultation.
3) Next, one of our skilled plastic surgeons will come in to discuss your goals and expectations. After briefly examining the area(s) of your body you’d like to address, Dr. Branch or Dr. Harrington will explain the treatment options to help you fully understand the benefits and outcomes of each procedure, along with any potential risks and complications. Together, you and your surgeon will create a customized plastic surgery plan to meet your individual needs. Our goal is to help you make the best and safest decisions for you so ask as many questions as needed to help you feel comfortable and confident going into your plastic surgery procedure! Before you leave the exam room, photos will also be taken for insurance or for documentation.
4) Finally, after your discussion with the surgeon, you’ll meet with our patient coordinator to discuss cost estimates, surgery times, and other details, or just to resolve any last-minute questions regarding your insurance.
The decision to have plastic surgery can be complex. It’s helpful to write down any questions or concerns you may have before your consultation so that you can be as accurate and candid with your surgeon as possible. And remember, plastic surgery is a highly personal decision. Anyone considering a procedure should do it for themselves, and not to meet someone else’s ideal or expectations.
